The first session allows the client and psychotherapist to get to know one another and start developing a therapeutic alliance. The first session typically focuses on information sharing where the psychotherapist reviews the consent form with the client, collects relevant information about the client, and begins exploring the client’s goals for therapy. This information will inform subsequent sessions in which a personalized therapeutic plan is collaboratively formulated, goals are revisited, and interventions are implemented. Prior to the first session, clients have the opportunity to book a free telephone consultation with their psychotherapist to determine fit and ask questions.

Each psychotherapy session is scheduled for 50 minutes.

There is no set length for psychotherapy. Depending on the goals of each individual as well as other factors, some clients request a few sessions while others attend therapy on a regular basis for several months or years.

Clients decide how often sessions are scheduled. Clients are encouraged to schedule sessions once per week to encourage continuity and effectiveness.

Referrals by physicians or other health care professionals are not required. Clients can request psychotherapy services on their own.
